First time to Macau by direct flight from Narita. Stay at the luxurious Andaz for the first night.

Posted on 2024-09-042024-10-18 by Editor in Chief

I went on an inspection tour organized by the Macau Government Tourist Office. I flew from Narita International Airport to Macau on Macau Airlines’ direct flight. The flight time is only 4 hours. It would be relatively easy for families with small children to visit Macau.

Macau, like Hong Kong, is a special administrative region, so Japanese nationals do not need a visa for stays of 90 days or less (as of August 2024, China requires visa application even for travel purposes). Incidentally, there are direct flights from Japan to Macau from Kansai International Airport. Before the pandemic of the new coronavirus, there were flights to Fukuoka, but as of August 2024, no flights have been resumed.

Macau Airlines allows web check-in from 24 hours prior to departure for flights departing from Narita, and from 14:00 the day before for flights departing from Macau. Seat selection is also available. The Narita-Macau route is code-shared with ANA, so you can also accumulate ANA frequent flyer miles.

Macau Airlines passengers can use ASPIRE AIRPORT LOUNGES, a lounge operated by Swissport (please check the Macau Airlines website for conditions of use). A dedicated bar counter offers cocktails and other beverages, as well as a variety of snacks, sweets, and soft drinks. In many cases, it is close to the departure gate, so you can spend your time comfortably.

While relaxing in the ASPIRE AIRPORT LOUNGES lounge, a Macau Airlines Airbus A321neo, the boarding aircraft, was spotted at the gate visible from the window. This A321neo operates the Narita – Macau route, and it is a new aircraft, so it is very clean.

Macau Airlines’ Airbus A321neo has a total of 198 seats, 12 in business class and 186 in economy class, and the web check-in process held the window seats.

Although there is no personal monitor, passengers can enjoy flight maps and in-flight entertainment on their own mobile devices. Although I was not able to choose the in-flight meal because I was seated somewhat in the back of the plane, I was usually able to choose between two different main dishes. Since the flight was at dusk, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset during the descent and arrived at Macau International Airport at night.

This time, I stayed in a “1 King” room on a high floor at Andaz Macau, one of the eight hotels in Galaxy Macau.

One king bed, a glass-enclosed shower, and a deep soaking tub. Incidentally, this glass is smart glass for privacy. La Bottega bath amenities made of natural materials are also available. Let’s sleep in the comfortable bed and get ready for your exploration of Macau tomorrow.
