Hotel Gajoen Tokyo (1-8-1 Shimomeguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo) will hold “Tsuki Hyakugata x Hyakudan Staircase – Enjoy the Moon Tour with the Five Senses” at Hyakudan Staircase, a tangible cultural property designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government located within the hotel, from October 5 through December 1.
The main theme is “Tsuki Hyakkata,” a series of paintings by ukiyoe artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period, depicting various motifs associated with the moon. 20 works will be exhibited, divided into two periods.
Projection mapping of a full moon 2 meters in diameter will be performed in a space that looks as if the moon depicted in an ukiyoe woodblock print has appeared before your eyes, and contemporary artists from Japan and abroad will exhibit their works using the moon as a motif.
Admission for same-day tickets is 1,600 yen for adults (1,300 yen in advance), 1,000 yen (900 yen) for university and high school students, and 800 yen (600 yen) for elementary and junior high school students.
Online-only admission tickets are also available, including a limited number of tickets with goods (3,200 yen), a ticket with a gallery talk, guidebook, and postcard (2,800 yen) with a specified date, time, and capacity, and a special nighttime ticket (2,500 yen). A postcard will be given to those who purchase online.
Also, visitors who purchase tickets on the day of the event will receive a 200 yen discount if they come to the museum in kimono, and a postcard will be given to them.
During the period, a reciprocal discount will be offered in conjunction with “Hiroshige Blue,” which is being held at the Ota Memorial Museum of Art at the same time.
