Lotte’s Polish subsidiary Lotte Wedel opened the E. Wedel Chocolate Factory Museum (aleja Emila Wedel 5,03-822 Warszawa) on September 4.
Wedel is a long-established confectionery manufacturer founded in Poland in 1851, and became Lotte Wedel after joining the Lotte Group in September 2010. The museum that opened consists of one basement floor and seven above-ground floors (eight floors in Japanese style) on a total area of over 8,000 m2, and the building was renovated from a silo once used for cacao processing. The exterior design is based on the motif of a giant chocolate board. The entrance faces Emil Wedel Street, and the rooftop overlooks Warsaw’s skyscrapers and the adjacent Skariszewski Park.
Inside the building, visitors can enjoy a waterfall of chocolate, a demonstration of how cacao grows, an exhibition of Wedel’s history and past packaging, and a taste comparison of three types of chocolate. Visitors can also take a 90-minute guided tour of the production process of the brand’s flagship products, such as Halva and Sesamki, confections using sesame seeds, and Barrel, a chocolate with alcohol. Visitors can take a break at the attached café and purchase museum-exclusive chocolates and other goods jointly developed with Lotte at the gift store.
Admission is 70 PLN (złoty) for the general public. Discounted rates and rates for families and groups are also available. Tickets can be purchased on the official website or at the ticket office at the main entrance.
