MUJI starts tax payment at hometowns. About 130 items including local products from all over Japan on a special website.

Posted on 2024-09-182024-11-02 by Editor in Chief

Ryohin Keikaku, which operates MUJI, opened a dedicated website for hometown tax payments on September 18.

The company handles approximately 130 items, mainly products from the “Kokoku Ryohin” market, a market directly shipped from production areas, such as mandarin orange juice from Arita City, Wakayama Prefecture, and a Kiritanpo hot pot set of Hinai Jidori chicken from Odate City, Akita Prefecture, and plans to expand the product lineup in the future.

The initiative to sell local products from the 47 prefectures of Japan as “Koku Ryohin” at MUJI stores and on the MUJI e-commerce site started in 2015. In order to encourage more people to purchase these products and support the producers, MUJI introduced the Furusato tax payment system for the first time in cooperation with Trust Bank, the operator of “Furusato Choice”.

In principle, the amount exceeding 2,000 yen out of the amount donated to a municipality is fully deductible from income tax and inhabitant tax. This will make it easier to purchase products handled by “Kokka Ryohin” and allow people to support not only their hometown but also other prefectures, cities, wards, towns, and villages.
