On September 25, Hawaiian Airlines completed the installation of Starlink’s high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi on all Airbus aircraft flying between Asia, the U.S. mainland, Oceania, and Hawaii, including flights to Japan, and began offering it free of charge.
As the first major U.S. airline to adopt SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communication service, we have been installing the service on our A321neo aircraft since February, and have now installed it on 24 A330 aircraft (3 classes, total 278 seats) that are also used for Japan routes (Narita/Haneda/Kansai/ Fukuoka to Honolulu) The installation has now been completed.
Starlink will provide high-speed, low-latency communications on trans-Pacific flights by using low-orbit satellites. This allows passengers to connect to the Internet as easily as they do at home immediately after boarding, and provides high-speed communication suitable for work, streaming video, and online gaming. To use the service, users simply connect to the network name “Starlink WiFi on HawaiianAir” without the need to register for the application or use a credit card.
The company plans to install Starlink on Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 787-9 aircraft in the future, but has no plans to install it on Boeing 717 aircraft used for short-haul flights between the Hawaiian Islands.
