We have seen Yamato’s invoice issuing system in action, which requires no handwriting and can be completed using a smartphone. Also reduces the burden on foreign travelers and facility staff.

On October 1, Yamato Transport will begin offering a “simple slip issuing tool” that allows users to issue invoices from their smartphones at counters in hotels, airports, and tourist facilities. 300 locations nationwide are scheduled to install the service by the end of October. The service is limited to delivery within Japan).

The process of using the simple slip issuing tool is as follows: First, at the counter of a hotel or airport where a dedicated terminal is installed, read the QR code presented and open the dedicated Web site. Next, the user enters information about the recipient of the package and his/her own information, and creates a QR code containing that information. The QR code is then scanned by the terminal and printed on a voucher.

After that, the fee is calculated based on the size of the package, just like a regular parcel delivery service, and once the fee is paid and the package is deposited, the service is complete. The dedicated website is available only in Japanese and English, but the company plans to increase the number of languages available depending on future needs.

The development of a simple slip issuing tool is largely due to the needs of tourists who want to deliver large packages such as suitcases to their next destination. For foreign tourists, who are increasing in number with each passing year, it is a difficult task to fill out a courier slip written in Japanese with the name of a destination, including the names of difficult places. The time and effort required by the hotel staff to assist them is also time-consuming, and the quality of service is deteriorating.

In fact, at the “VIA INN PRIME AKASAKA (Akane no Yu),” which has been using the tool on a trial basis since early fall of 2023, it used to take an average of 4 to 5 minutes, or even 10 minutes in some cases, to make a slip and check luggage, but since the simple slip issuing tool was used, the average time was reduced to about 1 minute and 45 seconds. However, after using the simple slip issuing tool, the average time was reduced to about 1 minute and 45 seconds.

In addition, the company will announce as an error if it is not possible to deliver on the specified date depending on the date of stay or distance to the destination, which will help reduce shipping problems.

The service will be introduced mainly to hotels at the beginning, but the company plans to actively promote the introduction of the service to souvenir stores in sightseeing spots in the future.
