Ginzan Onsen (429 Ginzan Shimbata, Obanazawa, Yamagata Prefecture) will impose traffic and admission restrictions on day-trip tourists during the winter period from December 20 to the end of March 2025.
From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, park-and-ride will be held without admission restrictions, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, park-and-ride will be held with a limited number of people, and from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, only authorized persons will be allowed to enter the park. During the restricted hours, the number of visitors per hour will be limited to 100, and admission will be by ticket.
Tickets will be available online and will be announced separately in early October.
Traffic restrictions are in place from 16:00 to 10:00 daily on Prefectural Route 188 from the Juichi Passage site to Ginzan Onsen, and day-trip tourists are not allowed to pass.
Walking from the restricted area to the hot spring resort is prohibited due to the possibility of accidents that could result in loss of life.
Restaurant reservation holders, inn lodging reservation holders, commuters, residents, vendors, and emergency vehicles are exempt from the regulation.
The reason for the regulation is that, due to the tendency to “get by if you go,” unexpected incidents have occurred during the winter season due to unreasonable tourism plans, causing local staff to work from early morning to late at night to rescue people. Ginzan Onsen hopes that the regulation will prevent unreasonable travel plans, and calls for safe and enjoyable winter tourism.
An inquiry desk for traffic regulations has also been set up.
