JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”), and in August 2020 launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process who move to the area to promote initiatives in their respective regions. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL Hometown Cheering Troops” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving as flight attendants. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.
We spoke with Ms. Masuzu Yoshimura, a JAL Furusato Ambassador who is involved in the Kagoshima food menu at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba.
–What can you tell us about your initiatives?
Hello, I am Yoshimura, JAL Furusato Ambassador for the Kagoshima region! This is Yoshimura, JAL Furusato Ambassador for the Kagoshima region.
In collaboration with the Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba, a city resort hotel located in the Tokyo Bay area, we have decided to offer a jointly developed menu featuring ingredients from Kagoshima Prefecture at “The Bar & Lounge,” where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Tokyo nightscape from the top floor of the hotel (from October 1 to (limited time only from October 1 to November 30).
Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba is holding a “Kagoshima Fair” from September 1 to November 30 at Teppan-yaki Ginko, The Grill on 30th, and Chinese Restaurant To Uri, where you can enjoy a variety of Kagoshima ingredients in different styles.
During this period, we will offer one newly co-created food item and two cocktails from October at “The Bar & Lounge” specially for this event so that more people can experience the charm of Kagoshima Prefecture.
–How are you involved in this effort?
We have carefully selected the rich local ingredients, seasonings, and even alcoholic beverages that we know because we are ambassadors in Kagoshima, and proposed a selection of items to recommend. Based on these recommendations, the hotel’s chefs devised creative and appealing menus.
A tasting session was also held, where ambassadors, chefs, and related parties gathered to exchange opinions. At the tasting session, the dishes to be served were tasted and discussed in detail regarding taste, appearance, and serving method, resulting in a refined menu. In this way, a special menu that maximizes the charms of Kagoshima was created.
