On October 8, JR West Station City, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, and JR West SC Development announced plans for a large-scale renovation of the South Gate Building commercial complex.
The building’s commercial floors (B2F to 15F), which are directly connected to Osaka Station, will be completely renovated for the first time since its opening in 2011. The renovation will be carried out in phases over approximately four years starting in the fall of 2025, with a grand opening scheduled for 2029.
In the new South Gate Building, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store will operate the second basement to the ninth floor, and plans call for a drastic reorganization of the floor structure. JR West SC Kaihatsu plans to develop a new shopping center on the 10th to 15th floors by integrating specialty stores that can be expected to create synergies with the existing LUCUA Osaka facility.
