JR East to operate 5 lines all night on New Year’s Day, 2025. Operation to Ontake and Narita will also be conducted.

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) announced the operation of extra trains for the winter of 2024.

From December onward, Shinkansen and limited express trains will be increased, as well as limited express and rapid trains to various destinations.

JR East has also announced the all-night operation to be conducted on New Year’s Day, 2025, in the Tokyo metropolitan area on five lines: Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku-Negishi Line (Sakuragi-cho Station to Omiya Station), Chuo and Sobu Line local train (Mitaka Station to Chiba Station), Chuo Line rapid train (Mitaka Station to Takao Station), and Yokosuka Line (Yokohama Station to Zushi Station). The timetables will be reflected in the “JR East App” and “Digital JR Timetable” after December 6.

In addition, two round-trip trains will be operated between Tachikawa Station and Ontake Station on the Ome Line, and between Chiba Station and Narita Station on the Sobu Main Line and Narita Line, respectively. From January 5 onward, temporary limited express trains will be operated to Narita Station from Utsunomiya Station, Maebashi Station, and other locations.

Fuji, Kawaguchiko, Sotobo, and Choshi on New Year’s Day. A rapid “Hiraizumi Sendai Hatsumode-go” is also scheduled to run between Sendai and Hiraizumi Stations, with the outbound route on December 31 and the return route on January 1.
