The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the Republic of Madagascar on October 14 in Antananarivo, the capital of the country, for the “Toamasina City Water Supply System Expansion and Improvement Project.

Business Objectives
This project aims to expand safe and stable water supply services in the Toamasina metropolitan area by expanding and upgrading existing water treatment plants and water transmission and distribution facilities, thereby contributing to the promotion of public health and economic activities in the area.
Business
(a) Description of facilities, equipment, etc.: [Facilities] Renewal and expansion of the Farafati water treatment plant (expansion of water purification capacity to 9,000 m3/day, rapid filtration system), renewal of water distribution main (500 mm diameter x approx. 4 km)
(b) Consulting services/software components include: detailed design, bidding assistance, construction and procurement supervision, technical guidance for facility operation and maintenance, etc.
Maximum Amount of Provision
2,896 million yen
Scheduled implementation period
47 months
The project will be completed when the facility is put into service (April 2027).
