SUMIDA AQUARIUM (1-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida-ku, Tokyo) will hold an event “Great Chinago Festival” from October 25 to November 18 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the recognition of “Chinago Day (November 11)”.

This year’s event will feature a participatory program that can be enjoyed inside and outside the aquarium.

Web tickets are also available for a set that includes the “Great Chin-Anago Festival Shake” served at the Penguin Cafe and the “Chin-Anago Day” 11th anniversary original goods “Tenugui Chin-Anago” (1,320 yen). Prices are 4300 yen for adults, 3600 yen for high school students, and 3100 yen for junior high and elementary school students.

During the period, a stag beetle and a portable shrine with a chin anago motif will make an appearance, and a quiz rally “Riddle Solving! Chin-Anago Jizo mairi” and “My Chin-Anago,” a workshop where you can make your own chin-anago.

The “Three Kinds of Chinnas” are based on the motifs of the western pond snail and white-spotted garden eels, and visitors can decorate it with chinnas they have made in the “My Chinnas” workshop. The museum aims to decorate it with 1,111 chin corals by November 11.

From November 9 to 10, the Aquarium staff will carry the “Chinago Mikoshi” (portable shrine) with children as it makes its way around the Aquarium! Chinago Mikoshi” will be held on November 9 and 10.

A “Museum Circulating Photographer” will also be held from October 28 to November 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day, where staff will take instant photos of visitors wearing fashions with patterns and colors that resemble those of the three species of Chinese garden eels, and present them with photos with the “Great Chinese Eel Festival” logo on the spot.

From November 9 to 11, a festive version of the “chin sea eel mask” will be distributed, a “chin sea eel matching dice roll” will be held to win souvenirs, and a “chin sea eel guerrilla guide” will be held in which zoo keeping staff suddenly appear and give advanced quizzes related to the chin sea eels.

Other events include a fee-based workshop for elementary school students to observe the chin sea eel with the breeding staff, a folding screen-style panel display showing the 11-year history from the recognition of “Chinago Day” to today and the research conducted by the breeding staff, and a fan meeting to discuss the core love for chin sea eels.

The museum store will sell “Plush Chinago” (1,600 yen) and three types of “HARIO Chinago Glass Accessories” (7,400 yen each), as well as goods in collaboration with the “Licorice Recoil” animated TV series.
