To commemorate the 50th anniversary of its watch business, Casio will release a cross-brand model “Zero to One” on October 29, 2012, which expresses its development philosophy in black and gold based on each popular model.
The six brands being developed are CASIOTRON, OCEANUS, G-SHOCK, EDIFICE, PRO TREK, and BABY-G.
Casio’s watches, which have developed new functions such as solar charging systems, radio wave reception, and smartphone links, are expressed in black and gold as a “beginning light” that illuminates the darkness.
The “01” pattern is applied to the in-dial, back cover and around the dial, and the back cover is designed with the triangle motif applied to the Casiotron QW02.
Both models are equipped with a solar recharging system that is powered by sunlight or fluorescent light, and the OCW-SG1000ZE is the first OCEANUS brand to use Gallium Tough Solar, a highly efficient power generation system.
Gallium Tough Solar is based on Sharp’s solar cell technology, which was used in JAXA’s SLIM spacecraft, the first Japanese spacecraft to successfully land on the moon. Compared to conventional products, the Gallium Tough Solar has approximately five times the charging efficiency under sunny sunlight (approximately 50,000 lux) and approximately twice the charging efficiency under fluorescent light (approximately 500 lux).
