The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the United Republic of Tanzania on October 17 in Dar es Salaam for a grant of up to 4.07 billion yen for the “Dodoma City Ring Road Construction Project.
Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, is experiencing a significant increase in population due to the relocation of government functions from Dar es Salaam after 2020, with the population in 2022 being 1.2 times larger than in 2019 (an increase of approximately 520,000 people). The population in 2022 will be 1.2 times that of 2019 (an increase of approximately 520,000). Therefore, it is necessary to improve the living environment and facilitate traffic by diverting large vehicles away from the city center.
The project will construct a new road (2 lanes, approx. 3.1 km) from Makuru Intersection to Imagi Intersection on the inner ring road in Dodoma City, and widen the existing 2-lane road from Imagi Intersection to Bahi Intersection to 4 lanes (approx. 3.4 km).
This project will contribute to the SDG Goal 3 (Health and Welfare for All) and Goal 9 (Create a Foundation for Industry and Innovation) through the construction and widening of an inner ring road in Dodoma to facilitate traffic and improve the living environment in the city.
