Kumamoto International Airport opened Aso Kumamoto Airport “Sorayoka Area” (1802-2, Kotani, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture) on October 26.
This area has been developed as the second phase area following the terminal building, and is located on the east side of the passenger terminal building. It consists of a dining area, a park, and a visitor center, and can be used by visitors other than passengers as a lively community space.
Po-Tama”, a restaurant specializing in Okinawan soul food pork-tamago rice balls, “Ganoshin Hamburger Steak”, the first restaurant in western Japan using Iwate Prefecture brand meat, Monzaki-aged meat, and “Royal Host”, which has a menu exclusive to the Kumamoto Airport branch, have already opened in “Sorayoka Dining”, and through November, “Kumamoto’s Suganoya” specializing in horse sashimi and horse meat dishes, and the first Taiwanese drink and noodle store in Japan, “Lost Summer Milksha ft. Ichiryu Nijo 1624” will open.
The lineup will include stores that can be selected to meet the needs of each customer, whether they are in a hurry to take out or want to have a leisurely meal with their family.
Various events are held mainly on weekends at “Sorayoka Park,” located in the center of the Sorayoka area. A vegetable market selling fresh local vegetables and promotion of tourism in neighboring areas and destinations will be held.
The park is divided into three zones, starting from the west side: “Dining Nijimidashi Zone,” “Event Zone,” and “Play Zone.” In the Dining Nijimidashi Zone, visitors can eat and drink takeout items from the adjacent “Sorayoka Dining. The play zone will be a children’s playground, with a mountain made in the motif of the national scenic beauty and natural monument “Yonezuka” (Aso City) and a mist shower decorated with “blue bees” that live in the Aso area.
In addition, a red “KUMAMOTO” monument with Kumamon lined up in a pilot’s costume has been installed. Located in a spot where airplanes taking off can be captured in the angle of view, it can be enjoyed as a photo spot.
At the “Sorayoka Visitor Center,” which enhances sightseeing and leisure activities in Kumamoto and Kyushu, “Kumamoto SDGs Mirai Park,” where visitors can learn about the SDGs in a practical way, has pre-opened, and in mid-December, the sports bicycle rental store “SHARINKAN” and outdoor car and gear rental and sales shop ” Outdoor Travelers,” which rents and sells outdoor cars and gear, will open in stages.
In addition, the car rental counters of eight companies located in the passenger terminal building will be relocated to the Visitor Center. The rental car counter, rental cars, and shuttle bus stops will be consolidated in the same building, making it possible to complete the entire process from reception to use of the cars.
