On October 28, Tokyo Metro and Navitime Japan will start verification to realize “Seated Route Search.
Although the congestion status of each car in a running train is already provided by smartphone apps (Tokyo Metro my! App, Transfer NAVITIME, etc.), it is not possible to provide information on whether passengers can be seated or not.
Therefore, based on Tokyo Metro’s train car data, we analyze passenger boarding and alighting (alighting frequency by day of the week and time of day) from the time a train arrives at a station until it departs, “by car” and “at one-second intervals. The seating probability is estimated for each station. This allows passengers to have expectations such as, “The next train at station XX is likely to seat me if I get on car XX.
Navitime Japan will process data provided by Tokyo Metro and provide “Seat-seat route search” that searches for routes with seating possibilities and “Seat-seat car guide” that indicates the probability of seating in each car at each station on a trial basis in the Transfer NAVITIME. The company plans to conduct a field test for some users of the transfer NAVITIME service with the aim of studying and establishing data processing and simulation methods for estimating seating probability by the end of the fiscal year.
