JR West will operate a crab-designed express wrapped train to coincide with the start of Nippon Travel’s “Kani Kani Day Trip Express,” a one-day product that includes a round-trip JR (limited express train, reserved seat in a standard coach) and a seasonal crab meal.
The service will run mainly between Shin-Osaka and Kinosaki Onsen Station as the limited express Kounotori (and possibly between Kyoto and Kinosaki Onsen as the limited express Kinosaki). The service period is scheduled from November 7 to around March 2025.
Four brands of Matsuba crab representing the Tajima region in northern Hyogo Prefecture, a major producer of Matsuba crab, will be designed on the first and fourth cars of the 289 Series (four cars, one train), and the front of the cars will also be decorated with illustrations featuring crabs.
In addition, one phrase from PUFFY’s famous song “Nagisa ni Matomeno Eto Settlera” is broadcast as a chime in the train before arrival at Fukuchiyama, Toyooka, Kinosaki Onsen stations and other locations. This will be implemented not only on the Crab Express Wrapping Train, but also on some of the Kounotori, Kinosaki, Hashidate, Super Hakuto, Hamakaze, and Kani Kani-Kani-Kamakaze limited express trains.
On the first day of operation, local residents will greet passengers at Kinosaki Onsen Station.
