Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled a specially painted aircraft designed for “Moana and the Legend of the Sea 2,” the latest Disney movie to be released in Japan on December 6. A total of three specially painted planes are planned, and this is the first plane to be unveiled.
The second collaboration, following the 2016 collaboration for “Moana and the Legend of the Sea,” will feature the main character Moana, the demigod hero Maui, the coconut pirate Kakamora, and the work’s logo on the fuselage. In addition, the message “Welcome Voyagers” will be prominently displayed on the fuselage for all guests departing on their adventures. The aircraft will be an Airbus A330.
In November, the airline will also unveil two Airbus A321neo planes (one operating on select U.S. and Cook Islands routes) and a Boeing 717 (operating between the Hawaiian Islands), both with designs featuring characters from the film.
Each aircraft is named after a Hawaiian bird, star, or native plant or forest, honoring the traditional celestial navigation practices used by early Polynesian voyagers. The Airbus A330 is named after Hōkūleʻa (Arcturus the Zenith Star, Hawaii’s famous nautical canoe), the Airbus A321neo (Koa: Acacia Koa, the best wood for building Polynesian nautical canoes), and the Boeing 717 is named after ʻElepaio: (bird endemic to Hawaii, the patron god of canoe builders).
The specially painted aircraft will operate on U.S. domestic routes, Hawaii and American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, and Tahiti through March 2025.
To commemorate this collaboration, the first flight passengers will receive a gift, and a “Let’s go on an adventure” drawing will be held until 6:59 p.m. on December 1. The winner will receive 500,000 miles.
