Apple will introduce Share Item Location, a new feature that prevents lost luggage by sharing the location of AirTag or “Find” compatible accessories with airlines.
This function is designed to prevent so-called lost baggage, which occurs when a suitcase is loaded on another plane and arrives at an airport other than the destination, or is left behind at the departure airport. Users can use the “Find” app on their iPhone/iPad/Mac to generate a map that includes the current location of their luggage as a Share Item Location.
Supported airlines include Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling Airlines have been named, with more to come.
Coming soon worldwide with iOS 18.2 public beta for iPhone Xs and later, shared location information will be disabled as soon as the package is returned to the user’s possession, can be deactivated at the user’s discretion, and will expire automatically after seven days.
