The Meguro River Illumination for Everyone Executive Committee began lighting up the Shinagawa Ward Gotanda Fureai Waterside Plaza and the Meguro Riverfront at 17:00 on November 15. The lights will be on from 17:00 to 22:00 until January 13, 2025.
According to the person in charge, the total length of both banks is about 2.2 km, and about 350,000 cherry-colored LEDs are decorated on about 200 trees to make them look like “winter cherry blossoms.
The lights are 100% powered by in-house electricity generation by upcycling used cooking oil from local households and restaurants into biodiesel fuel. This initiative has received a regional award from Shinagawa Ward in its “Environmental Conservation Activity Awards” program.
In addition, every Saturday and Sunday from November 15 to December 22, a kitchen car will be open as “Everybody’s Food Stall Village” from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The event is held irregularly from Monday through Friday.
