JR East Cross Station Retail Company will release “Invitation Suica Penguin” and “Suica Penguin Wooden Carved Kagamimochi” in limited quantities.
Pre-orders will be accepted at NewDays and GENERAL STORE RAILYARD on the JRE MALL site from 12:00 p.m. on November 22, and products will be shipped sequentially from December 13. In addition, a campaign to award 5X JRE POINT will be conducted for pre-orders placed until 8:59 pm on December 2.
The “inviting Suica penguin” is a wooden figurine of a cute-looking “Suica penguin” and a “baby penguin” standing side by side, wishing for good fortune. The sculpture was designed by Gou Sakai, a Buddhist sculptor who is well known for his “cat Buddha” works, and was sculpted using the warmth of wood. The price is 19,800 yen, limited to 200 sets.
The “Suica Penguin Wood Carving Kagamimochi,” in which a Suica penguin sits on top of a rice cake instead of an orange, was a popular item that sold out immediately last year, and this year a child penguin version is also available. It is made by “MORITA,” a wood-carving manufacturer, and comes with a certificate of prayer for good luck at Horaibora Shrine in Kumamoto.
Once Matsunouchi is over, the set can be stored in a paulownia wood box on a pedestal that resembles a three-sided stand, so it can be used as an annual New Year’s decoration. Priced at 23,800 yen for the set and 12,800 yen for the Suica penguin alone. Limited to 150 sets each.
