The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on November 20 in Addis Ababa, the capital of the country, for the “Secondary School Development Project in Sidama Region.

Business Objectives
This project aims to improve the access to and learning environment in the target areas by establishing new gender-sensitive secondary schools and improving educational equipment in Sidama, thereby contributing to improving the quality of education and promoting the education of girls in the state.

(a) Details of facilities, equipment, etc.
Facilities] Construction of new schools (5 schools) (including classroom buildings, science laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, men’s and women’s restroom buildings, menstrual hygiene buildings, etc.)
Equipment] Desks and chairs for students, desks and chairs for teachers, desks and chairs for the administration building, shelves, science lab equipment, etc.
(b) Contents of consulting service software component
Detailed design, bidding assistance, construction and procurement supervision, etc. Soft components include technical support for equipment and facility maintenance.
Maximum Amount of Provision
1,463 million yen
Scheduled implementation period
40 months (including detailed design and bidding period)
The project shall be completed when the facility is put into service.
