Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for damage caused by tropical storm Sala in the Republic of Honduras have been delivered to the country.
Emergency relief supplies for the Republic of Honduras arrived in San Pedro Sula on November 21. At 15:45 (local time) on the same day at Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport, the Honduran delegation, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Cindy Rodriguez, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Crisis Information and Response Frank Antunes, Ambassador of Japan to Honduras Jun Nakahara, Honorary Consul General of Japan in San Pedro Sula Karim Kubain, and JICA Honduras Office Director Atsunori Kadoya, attended. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Atsun Nakahara, Ambassador of Japan to Honduras, Mr. Karim Kubain, Consul General of Japan in San Pedro Sula, Mr. Atsunori Kadoya, Director of the JICA Honduras Office, and others.
At the handover ceremony, Vice Minister Rodriguez expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance and stated that the goods would be delivered immediately to the heavily damaged areas in the northern part of the country. In response, Ambassador Nakahara expressed his hope that the damage caused by Tropical Storm Sara would subside as soon as possible.
JICA has been providing humanitarian assistance and development assistance for the “Valle de Sula Metropolitan Area Flood Control Master Plan Project” (2024-2026), a development plan study-type technical cooperation project. In response to this situation, JICA is not only providing humanitarian assistance at the time of disasters, but also working to strengthen the resilience of the region’s development through the implementation of the “Master Plan Project for Flood Control in the Valle de Sula Metropolitan Area” (2024-2026), a development plan study-type technical cooperation project. We hope to lead the realization of the HDP nexus in Honduras, which suffers from security and immigration problems.
The relief supplies provided this time will be delivered to the victims by the government of the country.
