NEXCO East Japan, NEXCO Central Japan, NEXCO West Japan, Metropolitan Expressway, Hanshin Expressway, and JB Honshin Expressway have announced traffic congestion forecasts for the year-end and New Year holidays (10 days from December 27, 2024 to January 5, 2025).
In the service areas of the three NEXCO companies and JB Honshi Expressway, traffic congestion is expected to be heaviest on January 2 on all sections. In particular, traffic congestion is expected to peak at 30 km or more on the off-ramps of Tohoku and Kan-etsu Expressways on January 2 and 3.
On the Metropolitan Expressway, traffic congestion will increase on weekdays in mid-December (19th-20th and 23rd-26th) toward the end of the year. On the other hand, during the year-end and New Year period when business traffic calms down, unlike other expressways, traffic congestion will remain low, but on January 2, traffic volume and congestion are expected to be relatively high as in previous years.
On the Hanshin Expressway, heavy traffic congestion is expected to occur especially on the Route 3 Kobe Route, peaking at 20 km westbound (Himeji direction) around 11:00 on January 2 and 18 km eastbound (Osaka direction) around 16:00 to 17:00 on January 2 and 3.
All companies are urging their customers to avoid peak hours and to check the latest road traffic information before departure and at the time of use. Also, please note that the holiday discount and the Round Trip Pass do not apply from December 30 to January 3.
