U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on November 26 (local time) that Japan is now an official Global Entry partner.
The program is designed to “promote bilateral trade, tourism, and cultural exchange” through a system that allows pre-screened Japanese nationals to smoothly clear customs and enter the U.S. at eligible airports. The program also includes TSA PreCheck access benefits.
Initial registration is subject to periodic background checks, including an in-person interview, and must be vetted by the Japanese authorities.
Global Entry for Japanese nationals was once launched in 2023 and was soon suspended. Global Entry is a mechanism for travelers who visit the U.S. frequently (more than four times a year) and requires $120 to apply.
