The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of Bangladesh on November 25 in Dhaka for the “Jamuna Railway Dedicated Bridge Construction Project (Phase III)” and the “Chotgram Sewerage Improvement Project (E/S)”. The projects covered by the Loan Agreement are as follows

Business Objectives
This project is to construct a new rail-only bridge in the Jamuna River basin parallel to the existing Jamuna Multi-Purpose Bridge to meet the demand for rail transportation, expand the road capacity of the existing bridge, improve sustainability and safety, and thereby contribute to the efficiency of the transportation network within the country and with neighboring countries.

1) Construction of a dedicated bridge for the Jamuna Railway (dual gauge with double track. Steel underpass truss bridge with a bridge length of 4.8 km)
(2) Construction of approach bridges (elevated) on both banks and relocation of rails (total 7.7 km on both banks)

This project aims to promote proper sewage treatment in Chotgram City by constructing a sewerage system, thereby contributing to the improvement of the living and sanitation environment of the residents and the preservation of the water environment. This loan is for engineering services related to the detailed design and bidding assistance for the above project, and is intended to promote the smooth implementation of the project.

(a) Construction of a sewage treatment plant (treatment capacity: approx. 60,000 m3/day, anaerobic anoxic aerobic method)
(b) Installation of sewage trunk line culvert (approx. 11 km)
(c) Installation of sewage branch line culverts (approx. 70 km) and connection of each house
(d) Consulting services (detailed design, bidding assistance, construction supervision, environmental and social consideration procedures and monitoring assistance, capacity building, etc.)
This loan will cover consulting services for the Project, including engineering services such as detailed design, bidding assistance, and procedures for environmental and social considerations.
