Yokohama Rapid Transit, Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC will conduct a verification experiment of touch-payment boarding service at all stations on the Minatomirai Line from the first departure on December 4.
The system utilizes Sumitomo Mitsui Card’s payment platform, “stera transit,” and allows passengers to smoothly get on and off the bus without the need to recharge by holding a touch-sensitive card (credit, debit, or prepaid) or a smart phone with a card set to it over a dedicated reader at the ticket gate. Credit card payment brands supported are Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay, with Mastercard to be added in due course.
The service will also introduce Q SKIP, Tokyu Corporation’s digital ticketing service, which allows passengers to pass through the ticket gate and board the train by displaying the QR code of a ticket purchased in advance on their smartphones and holding them over the reader at the ticket gate.
The verification experiment is also being conducted in cooperation with Tokyu Corporation, which operates a mutual direct service with the Minato Mirai Line, allowing passengers to cross over between the lines of the two companies.
