JAL Hometown Ambassadors and Supporters] Aomori City has many hidden charms! JAL flight attendants will tell you what kind of place Asamushi is!

Posted on 2024-12-042024-12-23 by Editor in Chief

JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”), and in August 2020 launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process who move to the area to promote initiatives in their respective regions. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL Hometown Cheering Troops” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving on board. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.

We interviewed Ms. Kimiko Miura, a JAL Furusato Ambassador who is involved in promoting the charms of Asamushi in Aomori.

–What can you tell us about your initiatives?

JAL Aomori Branch participates in the Winter Activity Conference to enliven Aomori’s winter season. We will guide you to the hidden charms of Asamushi in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, introduced by Mr. Washino of MOSPA Asamushi, whom we met through this connection.

Asamushi has everything you are looking for in a trip, including hot springs, local cuisine, and activities!

From Aomori Station, take the Aoimori Railway to Asamushi Onsen Station in 23 minutes. When entering Aomori from Misawa Airport, JAL MaaS is a convenient and economical way to get to Aomori!

–What kind of experiences can I have in Asamushi?

At Nambuya Kaisenkaku, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in a hot spring while admiring Mutsu Bay, Yunoshima Island, and the sunset from the top-floor bathhouse.

At Nebuta Dining Ryuoh, you can enjoy a kaiseki dinner and dessert buffet while watching Tsugaru shamisen, folk songs, and hand dance, and finally, you can try your hand at leaping to the beat of the Nebuta musical accompaniment. After the experience, you can take a commemorative photo in front of the Ryuoh with the leaping performers and the musical troupe.

Each inn in the Asamushi area is decorated with Nebuta art. Please enjoy the original Nebuta created by Nebuta artists for this project.

–What other spots do you recommend?

At Tsubakikan, upon check-in, you will be greeted by the proprietress, Ebina-san, who will serve you matcha (powdered green tea) in the gallery decorated with works by Shiko Munakata. For tea sweets, we were served Merashikko, a famous Asamushi confectionery.

Each room is named after a camellia, and each room is decorated with a different piece of artwork by Shiko Munakata. There is also a special guest room with a tea-ceremony room, which is limited to one room only, according to the proprietress’ wishes. Guests can enjoy kaiseki meals with seasonal ingredients from the mountains and seas of Aomori while gazing out over the garden.

–What is your message to travelers?

Once you visit Asamushi, you will be hooked and want to return again and again.

In addition to the spots introduced here, there are many other lively spots, including Asamushi Firefly Lake, where you can see three types of fireflies; Keika Jozo, an original craft beer store that changes regularly; Asamushi Corridor, a gallery and store with a café attached; Shodate Restaurant, where you can enjoy fresh hottate (freshly cooked fresh fish) with a long line in the summer; and Sunset Beach Asamushi, where you can take pictures of the sunset and Yunoshima. Asamushi Aquarium, where dolphin shows are very popular, and Sunset Beach Asamushi, where the sunset and Yunoshima Island look great in photos.

We hope you will enjoy Asamushi to the fullest when you visit Aomori.
