The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Chiba Prefecture, and NEXCO East Japan have announced that the ETC time zone toll system implemented on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line will be reviewed in April 2025.
In the social experiment that began in July 2023, the standard ETC fee was raised from 800 yen to 1,200 yen on weekends and holidays from 13:00 to 20:00 on the uphill route, when traffic volume increases, and to 600 yen on weekends and holidays from 20:00 to 24:00, when traffic volume decreases.
Starting in April 2025, the service will be stepped up by time zone, ranging from a minimum of 400 yen to a maximum of 1,600 yen. In particular, the rate will be 1,600 yen from 13:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, double the rate for weekdays, and 400 yen half the rate from 20:00 to 4:00 the following day.
In addition, time zone-specific charges will be introduced for the downbound line. Fees will be set at 400 yen on weekends and holidays from midnight to 4:00 p.m., and at 1,000 yen from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For details, please refer to the attached chart.
