International Emergency Assistance for Flood and Landslide Damage in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka -Delivery of Donated Goods | News & PR

Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for flood and landslide damage in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka have been delivered to the country.

Emergency relief supplies for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka arrived in Colombo on December 6. On December 7, at 10:00 p.m. (local time), a handover ceremony was held at Bandaranaike International Airport with Vice Marshall Sampath Thuyakonte, Undersecretary of Defense of Sri Lanka, Udaya Herath, Director of Disaster Management Center, and Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, Tetsuya Yamada, Director of JICA Sri Lanka Office, and others from Japan in attendance. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Akio Isomata, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, and Mr. Tetsuya Yamada, Director of the JICA Sri Lanka Office.

At the handover ceremony, Mr. Tuyaconte, Undersecretary of Defense, and Mr. Herat, Director of the Disaster Management Center, expressed their deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance and stated that the goods would be delivered to the affected areas in 13 prefectures that were severely damaged. In response, Ambassador Isomata expressed his hope that the flooding and landslide disaster would be over as soon as possible, and that Japan and JICA would continue to provide assistance in response to such disasters.

The relief supplies provided this time will be delivered to the victims by the government of the country.
