JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with ambassadors and other representatives of 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries in Tokyo on November 27. The meeting was held at the invitation of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), a group of 21 Latin American diplomatic missions stationed in Tokyo.

During the meeting, President Tanaka referred to last year’s revision of the General Guidelines for Development Cooperation and stressed the importance of co-creation with each partner, including business and research institutions, to realize human security through development cooperation. In particular, he referred to the four approaches of Japanese communities, private sector development, utilization of science and technology, and partnerships, and indicated the importance of strengthening partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean, including cooperation with partners and further utilization of science and technology, as well as with regional organizations such as SICA (Central American Integration Organization) and CARICOM (Caribbean Community). He also indicated the importance of strengthening partnerships with regional organizations such as SICA (Central American Integration Agency) and CARICOM (Caribbean Community).
The ambassadors expressed their high level of trust in and appreciation for JICA’s various cooperation activities over the years. They also expressed their expectations for JICA’s contributions in areas such as the use of science and technology, collaboration with the private sector, and the utilization of Japanese disaster prevention technology and experience. In addition, the Ambassadors spoke of JICA as an important partner in the development of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Robert Takada, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Tokyo, who is the Secretary of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), as well as the Ambassadors of El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico, Jamaica, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Argentina, Cuba, Paraguay, Panama, Colombia, Haiti, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, and Bolivia.
