Background and Objectives
The purpose of the conference is to clarify the direction of multi-sectoral synergy between climate change action and sustainable development, with a particular focus on adaptation measures, from the perspectives of international organizations, research institutions, governments, and aid agencies, in order to realize “climate resilient development”.
Contents
JICA stressed the importance of climate change adaptation measures that also take into account the human security perspective, and introduced the concept and importance of “Climate Resilient Development (CRD)” through co-benefit approaches and investment in advance disaster reduction, etc. ADB emphasized cooperation with development finance institutions including Japan, and IPCC Vice-Chairman stressed the importance of pursuing synergy between SDGs and The importance of pursuing synergies and minimizing trade-offs between the SDGs and climate goals was emphasized by the Vice-Chair of the IPCC. The Ministry of Finance introduced the introduction of the Climate Resilient Debt Clause, which allows borrowing countries to temporarily defer debt repayment in the event of a disaster. The panel also discussed multi-sectoral efforts to realize CRD, the use of science and technology, and the strengthening of monitoring and evaluation.
