Background and Objectives
Djibouti, which maintains political stability within the Horn of Africa region and is home to IGAD headquarters, plays an important role in promoting peace and stability in the region and around the Red Sea. JICA has contributed to the development of young leaders for the future of Djibouti through the Djibouti Institute of Diplomacy and JICA chair special lectures at primary and secondary teacher training schools.
We are pleased to announce that Professor Hideo Shinoda (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies), who is well versed in Japan’s experience in peacebuilding, will give a JICA Chair special lecture at the University of Djibouti and the Djibouti Institute of Diplomatic Studies in order to contribute to human resource development for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
Contents
Professor Shinoda gave lectures on “Japan’s Peacebuilding Experience and Peace and Stability in the Horn of Africa” at the University of Djibouti on December 3 and at the Djibouti Institute of Diplomatic Studies on December 4 on Japan’s history as a peaceful nation, Hiroshima as a city of peace, and Japanese cooperation for peacebuilding in other countries. He also gave a lecture on Japan’s history as a peaceful nation, Hiroshima’s history as a city of peace, and Japan’s cooperation in building peace in other countries.
Participants from the University of Djibouti asked questions about the background of Japan’s focus on efforts to stabilize the Indo-Pacific countries, including East Africa. At the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, participants actively asked questions from a diplomatic perspective, such as the position of Africa and Djibouti in international social affairs. The lecture was also well attended by relevant Djibouti government ministries and IGAD staff.
JICA will continue to cooperate with Djibouti in human resource development and stability in the Horn of Africa region, and will contribute to fostering trust between the two countries.
