Yumeshima Station and East Gate on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line The East Gate is located just outside Yumeshima Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line. The exterior of Yumeshima Station has just been completed, and its sleek, unassertive form could be seen. The roof of the East Gate has been completed, and pavement work around it continues. By the way, if you are taking a bus, stop at the bus stop on the west side of the station and enter through the West Gate.
An innovative toilet using a regrettable stone Toilet 2, which is located outdoors, was also unveiled. This toilet was designed by the team of young architect Yurika Takemura. The Osaka-Kansai Expo held a competition for young architects to design about 20 buildings, and this is one of the toilets selected in the competition. One of the major features of this restroom is the use of “regret stones” for the pillars. Shame stones are stones that were quarried from all over Japan in the early Edo period (1603-1867) to rebuild the stonewalls of Osaka Castle, but for some reason were not used. The stones used here are managed by Kizugawa City in Kyoto Prefecture, and five of them were brought to the venue. The theme was “Garden with Life,” which was conceived with the stones as if they were life. He believes that the utilization of local resources is also an important theme of the Expo, and said, “I hope the Expo will connect the past, present, and future,” as stones that did not see the light of day 400 years ago come back into the limelight in the modern age.
