Ryzen AI PRO specs for both work and play! LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS), the perfect long-drive for travel and business trips

Posted on 2024-12-262025-01-30 by Editor in Chief

The LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) is a 14-inch notebook PC from NEC Personal Computer that meets all of the following requirements: excellent basic performance that does not slow down processing even when using office applications while video conferencing; power to handle creative work such as video editing and encoding; battery life that is reliable even on long trips; 3D performance for playing games despite its thin and light design; and high local AI processing performance that will be useful in the future. NEC Personal Computer’s 14-inch notebook PC “LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS)” meets all of these requirements. In this article, we will take a closer look at this machine, which can be used for multiple purposes, from a main PC for work to a travel companion. The main feature of LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) is that it is a well-balanced notebook PC that can be used comfortably for both work and private use and is small enough to carry around. Measuring 313.6 x 222.9 x 19.8 mm, close to A4 size, and weighing 1.39 kg, the 14-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and is easy to read. The screen ratio is 16:10, which is longer vertically than the mainstream 16:9 ratio, making it easier to view vertical data such as web browsers and text files. The CPU is AMD’s latest “Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360,” with 8 cores and 16 threads running at up to 5 GHz, a high enough level for a notebook PC in terms of the number of cores and operating clock to be useful in a wide range of processing tasks. The GPU has top-class performance for a CPU-integrated PC, and can also be used to enjoy games. In addition, the NPU is an AI-specific processor with 50 TOPS of performance, meeting the requirements of Microsoft’s “Copilot+ PC,” which requires AI processing performance of 40 TOPS or higher. The memory capacity is large, 32GB as standard, making it easy to use multiple apps simultaneously and handle creative work. With 512GB of storage, the LAVIE NEXTREME XX will not be a problem for the foreseeable future. LAVIE NEXTREME X1475/JAS OS Windows 11 Home CPU AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360 (8 cores 16 threads, up to 5 GHz, TDP 28W) GPU AMD Radeon 880M (built-in CPU) Memory 32 GB (LPDDR5X) Storage 512 GB (PCIe 4.0 x4, NVMe M.2 SSD) Display 14.0″ IPS LCD (1920 x 1200 pixels, 100% sRGB, non-glare) Interfaces Thunderbolt 4 x 2, USB 3.2 Gen.1 x 2, HDMI output, headphone-microphone jack Communication Wi-Fi 7 (320 MHz support), Bluetooth 5.4 Camera 5 megapixels (supports Windows Hello facial recognition) Sound Stereo speakers Security Fingerprint sensor (integrated power button, supports Windows Hello fingerprint recognition) Included AC adapter (65 W max) Color Lunar Gray

It can work, encode video, and play games! The LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) is basically designed for business. Therefore, the first thing you may be interested in is the comfort level of office applications. For comparison, we have prepared the LAVIE NEXTREME Carbon XC950/DAG, a high-end notebook with a Core i7-1195G7 CPU (4-core 8-thread) that was released as a spring model in 2022. This model has 16GB of LPDDR4X memory and a 512GB SSD for storage. The display is the same 14-inch with 1920 x 1200 pixels. This should give you an idea of how far notebook PCs have evolved in about 2 years and 10 months. First, PCMark 10, which measures the PC’s basic performance, and PCMark10-Applications, which measures the performance of office applications by actually running Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Edge, are run. PCMark10-Applications. Since the processing is not that demanding, both PCs score high. Business applications such as office will not cause any dissatisfaction. PCMark 10’s comfort level is 4100 or higher for Essentials, 4500 or higher for Productivity, and 3450 or higher for Digital Content Creation, all of which are more than twice the scores of the LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS). So how about hobbies and fun? Let’s try the Procyon Video Editing Benchmark, a benchmark that actually performs editing and encoding using Adobe’s Premiere Pro video editing application. The LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) GPU “Radeon 880M” is equipped with a hardware encoder and is capable of high-speed encoding. Compared to the comparative LAVIE NEXTREME Carbon XC950/DAG, the encoding speed is about 1.5 times faster, and the score of 9499 is also quite high for a notebook PC. The score of 9499 is also quite high for a notebook PC, which means it has the power to handle video editing. Let’s play a real game. Apex Legends is the frame rate when moving along a fixed course in a shooting range, Street Fighter 6 was measured using “CapFrameX,” the frame rate of a 60-second CPU-to-CPU match, and Cyberpunk 2077 was measured using the built-in benchmark function. The LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) showed comfortable frame rates for Apex Legends and Street Fighter 6, albeit at low quality settings. Cyberpunk 2077 is also playable. It is nice to be able to continue playing games while traveling or on a business trip. On the other hand, LAVIE NEXTREME Carbon XC950/DAG has a frame rate that is difficult to play comfortably. It was common for business notebooks to have a tough time with game play, but that has changed, which is a big point.

Over 10 hours! Long battery life Battery life is a top-class concern for those who want to use notebook PCs on business trips or while traveling. Here, we ran the “Procyon Office Productivity battery life,” which measures battery life with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook running in a manner similar to actual work. The power setting was set to the default “balanced”. The screen brightness was set to 50%, and the battery life was 10 hours and 36 minutes from 100% to 2%, which is quite a long time. This is safe even if you have to go out or move around for a long period of time. The LAVIE NEXTREME (X1475/JAS) also has a “long battery” mode that extends battery life, although the performance is a bit lower. When we ran the “Procyon Office Productivity One Hour Battery Consumption” test, which measures battery consumption in one hour, we found that the default balanced setting consumed 6% of the battery in one hour, but the long battery setting consumed only 5%. The long battery setting reduced the battery consumption to 5%. This is a big difference when it comes to long battery life. This is useful if you want to extend run time rather than performance.

AI is also a key feature of Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360, as its name implies, which is strong in AI processing. To solve this problem, AMD has prepared “Amuse,” a generative AI application for Ryzen/Radeon. By simply installing this application, it is possible to generate images from prompts (keywords) and hand-drawn sketches entered by the user. This makes it easy to create materials for in-house documents. It takes only about 14 seconds to generate 4 patterns of 1024 x 1024 dot images from user input prompts, which is quite fast and practical. Another way to take advantage of the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360’s built-in NPU is to use “Windows Studio Effects,” which uses the NPU to process functions such as blurring the background of a webcam image, framing to automatically center the user, and eye contact to correct the user’s gaze toward the camera. The NPU processes these functions. The processed video is directly reflected in the videoconferencing application. For example, the standard videoconferencing application “Zoom” has a function to blur the background of the webcam image, but it is GPU-intensive when enabled. With Windows Studio Effects, however, the NPU is in charge of the processing, which gives the CPU and GPU more time to perform other tasks, which is a big advantage.
