Hotel Okura to make its first foray into northern Thailand. Plans to open two branches in Chiang Mai/Bangkok in 2028.

Hotel Okura and Asset World Corporation have announced plans to open the Okura Resort Chiang Mai and the Okura Prestige Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel & Spa (both tentative names) in 2028.

The two companies have several joint ventures in Thailand, including the Okura Prestige Bangkok, which opened in 2012, and Okura Cruises, a dinner cruise ship on the Chao Phraya River. Okura Nikko Hotels expects to operate seven hotels with approximately 2,000 rooms in Thailand by 2028.

Okura Resort Chiang Mai, the first Okura brand hotel in northern Thailand, is scheduled to open along Chang Klang Road, about 15 minutes by car from Chiang Mai International Airport. The area is said to be crowded with tourists until late at night, with a concentration of restaurants serving local cuisine as well as a night market in the vicinity.

There are approximately 220 guest rooms ranging in size from 40 to 60 square meters. In addition to Japanese elements such as tatami mats and open-air baths, the rooms are designed to evoke the traditional culture of the Lanna Dynasty, which flourished in the ancient capital of Chiang Mai. The hotel is equipped with a Japanese restaurant serving kaiseki cuisine, an all-day dining room, a café, a rooftop bar, and other facilities.

The “Okura Prestige Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel & Spa,” which integrates wellness into a city hotel, is scheduled to open in the Thonglor district, a popular area in Bangkok, approximately 40 minutes by car from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The area is considered to be home to many foreign expatriates, etc., and the hotel will be suitable for long-term stays.

The hotel will also introduce a unique program that combines traditional Japanese customs and health practices with modern wellness trends to provide guests with a moment of physical and mental refreshment throughout their stay.

The hotel will have approximately 240 guest rooms, with a standard area of approximately 45m2. In addition to Japanese-style suites, Western-style rooms will also be available. The Japanese-style sky lobby and rooftop bar located on the upper floors offer a view of the Bangkok skyline, and the outdoor pool cabanas offer healthy and well-balanced cuisine.
