Weathernews released the “First Cherry Blossom Bloom Forecast” on January 9.
In 2025, cherry blossoms are expected to bloom on March 21 in Tokyo, followed by Kochi and Yokohama on March 22, and in late March in western and eastern Japan. In late March, the cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in western and eastern Japan, with the Tohoku region expected to begin blooming in early April, and the cherry blossom front is expected to land in Hokkaido in late April.
The first half of this winter is expected to be marked by intermittent winter pressure patterns, which is expected to favor the dormant breakup of cherry blossom buds, and although the dormancy breakup may be slow in the Kinki region and southern Kyushu, where cold air has not had a long-lasting effect, the dormancy breakup is expected to proceed in the second half of January as the weather turns colder. April temperatures in northern Japan are expected to be warmer than normal, and the cherry blossoms will bloom earlier than normal.
The “Second Cherry Blossom Bloom Prediction” will be released in late January. Cherry blossom forecasts for more than 1,100 cherry blossom viewing spots nationwide will be released in mid-February or later on the Weathernews application and the “Cherry Blossom Information” website.
