Fukuoka Airport’s second runway to be shared on March 20. Departure/arrival throughput to increase from 38 times per hour to 40-45 times per hour.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that the second runway at Fukuoka Airport will be put into service on March 20.

Fukuoka Airport has the largest number of passengers and arrivals and departures of any airport with a single runway in Japan, and there was a need to increase throughput to meet strong demand.

The second runway expansion project, which has been underway since FY2015, will construct a new 2,500-meter runway (the first runway is 2,800 meters) parallel to the existing runway to enhance the current throughput of 176,000 times per year (38 times per hour) to 188,000 to 211,000 times per year (40 to 45 times per hour).

The lighting facility will be put into service after flight inspections, aviation law procedures, and notification to airline companies.
