Ohmi Railway will operate “Ohmi no Jizake Train 2025” on February 15, 22, and March 1, where passengers can enjoy Shiga’s local sake on a chartered train. The fare is 10,000 yen per person.

The train will run once a day, with a capacity of 72 passengers, and reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 a.m. on January 15 on the “Ohmi no Jizake Train 2025” website.

On board, passengers can enjoy nine brands of junmai sake (some junmai ginjo sake) from nine breweries in Shiga Prefecture, as well as three brands of locally brewed sake recommended by each brewery (changes daily). Along with the sake, dishes with Shiga’s specialties that go well with local sake, warm oden, and cheesecake made with sake lees from the local sake will be served. Yakizabazushi (grilled mackerel sushi) (800 yen) can be ordered as an option with an advance reservation at least 7 days prior to boarding.

At Takamiya and Yohkaichi stations, which are stops along the route, municipalities along the line will promote tourism, and sake breweries will introduce, sample, and sell locally brewed sake. In addition, a sake-tasting contest with gifts will be held on board the train.

The tour will meet at Hikone Station of Ohmi Railway at 3:30 p.m. and depart from Hikone Station at 3:47 p.m. It is scheduled to arrive at Ohmi Hachiman Station at 6:24 p.m. The plan includes a one-day unlimited free ride ticket, so you can also enjoy the areas along the Ohmi Railway before and after the ride.
