MUJI AEON MALL Kashihara, the world’s largest large-scale store, opens. First book café “Book and Cafe” and 9 zones on a sales floor area of 8201 square meters.

Ryohin Keikaku will open the world’s largest large-scale MUJI AEON MALL Kashihara (189-1 Shindo-cho, Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture) on March 1.

It will be located in the new expansion area of AEON MALL Kashihara, where AEON MALL is undergoing a large-scale expansion project, and will have a sales floor area of 8201m2, approximately 10 times that of MUJI AEON MALL Kashihara, which closed on November 4, 2024.

The store is divided into nine zones, with MUJI products for food, clothing, and shelter divided into different scenes of daily life. The entire store can be experienced as if it were a catalog.

The main store will provide a place for interaction with local residents in Nara Prefecture and the wider Kinki region, with a multi-purpose pilotis at the entrance that can be used for a marché, flea market, etc., and a space in the center of the store made of Yoshino cedar from Nara Prefecture under light coming in through a skylight to create a gathering place for children and families to spend time together.

In addition, the company has been collecting and reusing/recycling MUJI textile products, mainly clothing, plastic storage items (PP/PE), and PET bottle containers (PET) for skin care products, etc. At this store, the scope of collection will be expanded to include furniture, household goods, and accessories, and MUJI’s first initiative The store will expand the scope of reused products for sale as MUJI’s first initiative.

The store’s repair workshop will repair and maintain old furniture from Japan and around the world and sell it, aiming to become a new center for promoting resource recycling.

In addition, as one of the first attempts, a book café, “Books and Cafe,” which is a fusion of “Kashihara Bookstore” and restaurant “Cafe&Meal MUJI,” will be located in the building. Visitors can try out books before purchasing them at Kashihara Bookstore. Cafe&Meal MUJI” offers onigiri (rice balls) and donburi (rice bowls) made with ingredients from the neighborhood, freshly ground coffee and ice cream, as well as tea popular in the area, and all meals and drinks are available for take-out.
