Tokyo Metro and Navitime Japan have been experimentally offering a “Seat-friendly train guidance” function for “Transfer NAVITIME” application paying members only since January 22.
When a paid member searches for a route that includes Tokyo Metro lines on “Norikae NAVITIME” and there is a “car with a high probability of seating” to be displayed, “Car with a high probability of seating” will be highlighted on the list screen of search results. The detailed screen of each route displays up to three “car numbers that are likely to be seated,” as well as the seating probability for each stop between the boarding station and the destination station.
In addition, during the trial period, “experience surveys” and “improvement request questionnaires” will be conducted on the “Transfer NAVITIME” screen. The results of the application usage logs and the experience survey will be analyzed to verify the effectiveness of the service, such as whether behavioral changes have occurred and whether people are actually able to sit in their seats. The period of implementation will be up to two months.
The company is currently working on estimating “seating probability” (i.e., ease of sitting), verifying the accuracy necessary to provide the service through an application, and developing functions. In the future, the company plans to offer a function to search for a seat on a route that will allow passengers to sit more comfortably by forgoing one train, or by switching from an express train to a local train.
