Sankei Shimbun and Kansai Telecasting Corporation will hold the “Gyakkai Retrospective Dai Kaiji Exhibition” at Osaka Nanko ATC Gallery (2F, ITM Building, 2-1-10 Nanko-Kita, Suminoe-ku, Osaka City). The exhibition will run from April 5 to May 11.
This is the largest exhibition in the history of the “Kaiji” series, a milestone in gambling manga that began serialization in Weekly Young Magazine in 1996. The exhibition will look back on the many “adversities” depicted in the manga, including the first public display of original drawings by the author, Nobuyuki Fukumoto, and the famous scene in which the main character, Kaiji Ito, gambles for life or death.
In addition to the “Crossing the Steel Frame” and “Yaki-Kneeling” photo spots, the venue also features the “Loser’s Room,” a separate room inside the Espoir where the losers of the limited edition rock-paper-scissors-paper game are branded and housed, and “17 Steps,” a reproduction of Kaiji’s Ron tiles on the mahjong tabletop. Other exhibits include a “Sword Over Love,” a “Friendship Confirmation Game,” and a “Swamp,” a life-size reproduction of a devilish pachinko one-shot table from a backroom casino, where visitors can enter the world of Kaiji and enjoy taking photos. Life-size figures of “Kaiji,” “Ichijo,” “Tonegawa,” and “Otsuki” will also be available.
Visitors can also enjoy welcome announcements, exhibit commentary, and gambling introductions at each photo spot with newly filmed voices by Masato Hagiwara (Kaiji), Tomoyuki Morikawa (Yukio Tonegawa), and Fumihiko Tachiki (narration), who provided the voice actors in the anime. Visitors can enjoy the “17 Steps” episode of “Gambling Fallen Kaiji,” which has not been made into an anime, as well as a limited-edition production at the venue that recreates the stunning scene where Kaiji shouts “Ron” 11 times in a row.
In addition, all visitors are entitled to a “chinchillorin” challenge and will receive “perica,” the currency used in the underground labor facility, depending on the number of rolls they receive. Depending on the number of “Chinchillorin” challenges, some visitors may not receive any PERIKA, but if they “successfully stretch and play a role,” they can receive up to 5,000 PERIKA. It is a good idea to get some in case you are detained in the underground labor facility someday.
