Sanwa Kotsu will begin operating “Kouke to Taxi,” a service that combines traditional Japanese hospitality culture with modern transportation services, in the Hachioji area of Tokyo, with reservations accepted through a dedicated website starting January 23.
Sanwa Kotsu drivers perform daily inspections in a court noble style reminiscent of the Heian period (794-1192), greet passengers, and drive them around. The service is said to provide “timeless hospitality” through humorous performances. The fare is 5,500 yen in addition to the regular cab fare, plus an additional 5,500 yen service fee.
