On January 27, Kawasaki City launched automated buses on two routes and began demonstration tests.
The vehicle is a TIAFO “Minibus 2.0” equipped with a Level 4 automated driving system. The routes covered are the Haneda Liaison Line (Daishi-bashi Station to Tenkubashi Station) and Kawasaki Hospital Line (Kawasaki Station to Kawasaki City Hospital) of the Kawasaki Tsurumi Rinko Bus.
However, at the time of the start of the verification experiment, the Haneda Airport Line is in Level 2 automatic operation (January 27-30 and February 4-7, with some manual operation), and the Kawasaki Hospital Line is in Level 0 operation (February 1-2) for all sections.
Test rides for the general public are also planned and will be held from January 28 to February 7. Applications are available on the Kawasaki City website (first-come, first-served).
