Going back to April 1989, ANA began joint service with Scandinavian Airlines on the Tokyo-Stockholm route. Scandinavian Airlines continues to operate the Narita-Stockholm route, but this is the first direct scheduled flight to Stockholm by a Japanese airline. The flight was originally scheduled to begin in June 2020, but after the Corona disaster, it took four and a half years.

ANA’s Haneda-Stockholm route (January 31-March 29, 2025)

Flight NH221: Haneda (00:30) to Stockholm (06:20), operated on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday

NH222: Departs Stockholm (09:35) – Haneda (07:20), operated on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday

ANA has launched flights to Milan (December 3, 2024), Stockholm (today), and Istanbul (February 12, 2025), which were scheduled before Corona, one after another this fiscal year, and other European routes have been restored with the Paris and Munich routes becoming daily on July 1, 2024, and the Vienna route resuming on August 1, 2024. The recovery and expansion of the network is remarkable.

ANA Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer Juichi Hirasawa, who took the stage at the ceremony, introduced Stockholm as “a very attractive city for Japanese people, which can be visited via Haneda from all over Japan” and called for “Swedish people to find the goodness of Japan through the Expo” as well. I hope that the people of Sweden will discover the good things about Japan through the Expo.

Also speaking at the ceremony was LiLiCo, a well-known TV personality and film commentator. LiLiCo, who is half Japanese and half Swedish and hails from Stockholm, expressed her joy at the opening of the direct flight by a Japanese airline, saying, “I have been waiting for 30 years! She expressed her joy at the opening of the direct flight by a Japanese airline, saying, “I’ve been waiting for 30 years! There is plenty to see in every season, and my favorite is the old town, Gamla Stan. I love the old town of Gamla Stan, with its old buildings, woolen souvenirs, and restaurants and cafes in the cobblestone squares,” he said. He also plans to make his television debut there in 2024.
