On January 28, a ceremony was held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to commemorate the start of technical cooperation to establish and strengthen the capacity of the ASEAN Center for Infectious Disease Control.

The center will be established as a core center for preparing for, detecting, and responding to public health crises and emerging infectious diseases in the region, and the Japanese government announced its support for its establishment during the ASEAN+3 Special Summit on COVID-19 held in April 2020. In response, JICA will dispatch experts for three years from January 2025 to provide the necessary technical support for the establishment and start of operation of the center.
In addition to Thai government officials and JICA experts, the ceremony was attended by Mr. Pongsathong, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Health from the Thai side, Mr. Tatsushi Nishioka, Deputy Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, and Mr. Ryoichi Kawabe, Deputy Director General of JICA Thailand Office from the Japanese side.
