On February 5, Turkish Airlines unveiled its new lounge at Narita Airport Terminal 1. The lounge is located in the South Wing, Satellite 4, near Gate 47, and has an area of 800 m2, which will be expanded to 1,500 m2 in the future. It will be open from 7:30 to 21:45, and will be put into service tomorrow, February 6.
Eligible passengers are business class passengers, Elite Plus/Elite members of the Miles & Smiles frequent flyer program, and Star Alliance Gold members of Turkish Airlines and Star Alliance member airlines on the same day.
In addition to seating areas for rest and refreshments, the lounge has call booths, restrooms (men’s/women’s/universal), nursing/diaper changing rooms, shower rooms (3), prayer rooms (separate for men and women), VIP rooms (2), daybeds for napping, and work spaces with counter tables and power supplies. The facility is also equipped with a workspace with a counter table and a power supply.
It should be noted that the restaurant serves freshly baked “pide,” a Turkish dish that is said to be the prototype for pizza. For this purpose, a special baking oven has been installed in the kitchen, and the kitchen is designed as a live kitchen where customers can see the cooking process from the seating area. The pide is cooked on the spot, one by one, and the ingredients are placed on the long, boat-like dough, which is then quickly baked for about five minutes.
At this lounge, three types of pide are available: a pide with plenty of cheese, a pide with minced beef and egg, and a pide with spinach. I was able to sample a product baked by the chef, who has been in Japan from Turkey for 20 years, and it has a simple and gentle flavor without any peculiarities, which definitely suits the Japanese palate. The dough itself has a sweetness that is sure to please even children. It was a delicious dish that is very popular in the company’s existing lounges, and it is no wonder that the baked goods run out as soon as they are baked.
In addition, the lounge will offer Turkish cuisine and sweets, Turkish coffee and chai, and a variety of alcoholic/soft drinks.
