The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of Panama on February 6 for the “Panama Metropolitan Area Urban Transportation Line 3 Project (Phase III)” in the Western Metropolitan Area of the country. The project outline is as follows

Business Objectives

This project will improve urban transportation functions and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by upgrading Urban Transit Line 3, which connects the western region of Metropolitan Panama to the city center, through the introduction of high-quality monorail vehicles and systems that have a proven track record of commercial operation as a sufficiently safe and reliable urban transportation system, and thereby Contribute to the sustainable economic growth of the country.

(a) Monorail system procurement for Urban Transit Line 3

(a) Procurement of civil and building works and materials and equipment not included in the monorail system for the construction of a tunnel (approximately 5 km between Albrook and part of Panama Pacifico) and elevated (approximately 20 km between Panama Pacifico and Ciudad del Futuro) and station buildings for Urban Transit Line 3.

(c) Consulting services (tunnel portion) basic design review, detailed design review, implementation supervision, etc.

159,496 million yen

Redemption period

20 years (including 6 years of deferment)
