The JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025, after the first 29 members were sent to five countries (Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Kenya) in 1965.
To date, JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers have utilized their skills and experience to serve people in developing countries in more than 190 positions in nine fields, including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, health and medicine, social welfare, commerce, and tourism. To date, a cumulative total of 57,000 people have been dispatched to 100 countries. Many of the JICA JOCV members who have returned to their home countries are now using the experience they gained during their service to contribute to solving social issues not only in developing countries but also in Japan, in their own places.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, JICA is implementing a year-long anniversary project under the theme “The Power to Change the World and Japan. In line with this, JICA has created a 60th anniversary logo, which will also serve as a symbol, and launched a special website.
JICA will disseminate information through various projects in order to reach as many people as possible about JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, who work and contribute to bringing about change in the world and in Japan.
