I would like to make February “Happy Hour” month, a month for citizens to enjoy themselves on a slightly lower budget. In the U.S., it is customary for men to give flowers to women and take them out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, but this is a difficult task with the high cost of living. I have selected some unique happy hours that will satisfy you if you invite your girlfriends or wives.
Favourite Sun
Favourite Sun opened on the first floor of the Romer Waikiki Hotel last October. The charm of this restaurant is that it is located on the first floor of the hotel, yet offers a casual atmosphere to enjoy a meal. And since it is not well known yet, it is always open. Open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., the restaurant can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as a bar, so I have visited many times. By the way, I have never met a Japanese person here.
At this restaurant, “Happy Hour” is called “Pau Hana. It means “fun after work” in Hawaiian, and the hours are set a little later than a typical happy hour, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., which is just right for an early dinner.
The recommended cocktail is the POGstar Maritini; POG stands for passion fruit, orange, and guava, which gives it a tropical flavor. The cocktail comes with a small glass of white wine. First, drink it as it is, then add more white wine in the middle of the drink to make it less sweet and more refreshing.
For Pau Hana, POGstar Maritini is $12 ($4 off regular). Mai tais start at $10 and beers at $5. Meals are the same price as usual, with salads starting at $12 (half-size) and square pie pizzas starting at $13 (half-size). All of the pizzas are very generous, so a half-size is sufficient. If you want to enjoy American cuisine to the fullest, try the meatball sub, which is a large homemade meatball sandwiched between two large meatballs. The “sub” stands for “submarine sandwich,” and there is a theory that the name was derived from the submarine-like shape of the ingredients sandwiched between the hard surface of the bread.
I had the croissant bread pudding French toast ($18) on the breakfast menu, which was insanely sweet, but the coconut and fruit flavors were irresistible, and it went well with the coffee, making me want to try it again. I couldn’t finish it, even though we had to share it…
Even though it is inside the hotel, you can enter the restaurant directly from Kuhio Street for casual dining. It is a convenient place to know.
